street art

usually i am not a huge fan of graffiti...i remember the first time i went to rome i was amazed by how these centuries old buildings were covered with graffiti...and it wasn't even attractive, just random signatures.  it made me sad to see all of this amazing architecture ruined by silly hooligans.  however when i saw this artwork by OaKoAk, i knew this was some graffiti that i could get down with.  OaKoAk is a french artist who integrates his illustrations into street life to create amusing art for passerbys.

check out his blog for a look at all of his art, it is entertaining and i have a lot of respect for his ingenuity and wit.  but in the meantime, here are a few of my favorites!

  1. i love these. if you want more classy street art check out this guy http://jr-art.net/. He takes portraits of people, usually politically under-represented or contentious in some way, and then illicitly turns them into these incredible photo murals. He made an acceptance speech this spring talking more about his projects etc. He's the ish. http://www.ted.com/talks/jr_s_ted_prize_wish_use_art_to_turn_the_world_inside_out.html
