one kings lane - blogger edition

one kings lane is one of my favorite online window-shop sites.  like rue la la or gilt, they are a website that offers deals and discounts on high-end merchandise, only to set them apart, they only focus on home goods.  i love this store but unfortunately can't afford a $1,000 table, rug, or bookshelf.  (one day! one day!) tonight though at 9pm they are hosting a sale curated by the top home design bloggers.  one of my favorites - jenny komeda from little green notebook is participating and i can't wait to see what she suggests.  my fingers are crossed that at least a few items are in my price range!

check out the sale here at 9pm tonight!

fall nail polish

for several reasons this weekend was a wake-up call when i realized fall was finally here.  it was the first weekend i didn't go to the beach or attempt to get tan in any way actually. it also was the first time i smelled burned leaves, had to wear jeans during the day, and went to bed in a hoodie...crazy! with fall so obviously in my face, i realized that i meant fall nail polish!

so today when i was expertly procrastinating studying for my GMATs, i decided to give my nails their first fall treatment.  i went to a favorite from last year - hot coco.  i love the richness of the brown but that it is not too dark or too brown (i do not need it to look like i have fecal matter on my hands oddly enough).

this is false advertising and looks a lot darker than it actually is.
giving my nails their first fall coat made me excited for a whole new slew of fall colors.  i decided to diligently procrastinate studying more and found these great colors that i can't wait to try!

both of these essie colors are great neutrals - i love how the grey is light so it won't make my fingers look too pale with no harsh contrast.

scotch is my latest nail polish find - i can't wait to try these out.  the biggest issue i am having is figuring out which one to get.  at $14/bottle, i will need a big promotion to get multiple.

i think i love these names the most - tramp stamp on the left and saucy jack on the right. how can you not want to wear these colors with those names? then i can have a not-trashy tramp stamp. who thought that was possible?

what about you? what are your favorite nail polish colors for the fall??

dog eared jewelry

in the "pay day" spirit of it being the middle of the month and almost friday, i thought i'd suggest something to spend some of that hard-earned cash on!  we sweet snippets ladies just treated ourselves to a small piece of jewelry from dog eared, and got 10% off our purchase with the promo code "summer 2011".

alanna was looking for a pretty pair of "every day" studs.  these karma diamond gold dipped stud earrings fit the description perfectly!

i have a silver chain with a pendant diamond from my late grandmother's engagement ring that i currently wear every day.  it will likely continue to be my go-to necklace because of its meaning, but i was looking for a gold alternative.  when i came across this gold dipped new beginnings lotus disc necklace, i knew it was the perfect combination of simple, pretty, and inspirational.

what's the new beginning that i'm embracing and celebrating, you ask?  well, there are a few specific things...but really, every single day is a sort of new beginning.  here is a closer look at the lotus charm and the new beginnings description:

beach hats

one of the best parts about summer is the beach.  and this past weekend, alanna generously invited me to her family's new house at the shore.  it was a beautiful weekend with lots of sun, and we assumed our position as sun-worshipping bathing beauties.  ...by the end of the first day my face was a variation of hot pink and deep red - ouch, sunburn!  the next day i saw a girl my age walking along the water with a really pretty and summery hat, and i immediately decided this was something i need.  i guess i always thought hats were for moms (or grandmoms), but, like i said, this girl was my age and her hat was adorbs.  so i took to the internet to see what styles were out there and if i could find something young, beachy, and even attractive to become my hat...

straw floppy hat with faux leather band and buckel detail from laila rowe
trim straw hat from urban outfitters

pins and needles basic straw floppy hat from urban outfitters

summer straw hat from j.crew
two-toned wide brim hat with bow from zara

overall, i was surprised at how much selection was available for beach style straw hats.  and for the most part, they're actually very affordable!  the styles above range from under $10 to $40, which means you can find a style to fit any budget.

tgif

tgif!  what's everyone have planned for the weekend?? it's supposed to be a fairly beautiful weekend, weather-wise, at least in philadelphia.  highs in the low 80s, lows in the low 60s and mostly sunny both days with only a 10% chance of rain each day.  it sounds like the perfect weekend to get outside and do something!  go for a hike or bike ride, day trip to the beach... or attend a phillies game!  they're back in town after playing away games for the past week.

we're doing something really fun on saturday with a small group of our girl friends... a massive tailgate at the phillies stadium!  i found out about the tailgate from crossing broad, a philly blog that i read daily.  and let's just say that it didn't take much convincing to get alanna and the girls on board for a four hour, $10 all you can eat and drink tailgate for our favorite team.  it's the second such tailgate of the season, and they're expecting more than 250 people.  it sounds like a great way to spend a saturday afternoon and i hope that we meet lots of new friends who are phillies fans like us.  we won't actually be attending the game - trying to keep things cheap here! - but we will likely head to mcfadden's at the stadium to watch the game on tv with a good crowd.  if you want to join in on the fun, there are still ticketss available for the tailgate - here.

if you're in the philadelphia area and looking for something to do, the 22nd annual manayunk arts festival is also this weekend.  according to manayunk's website, "over the course of two days, artists from as many as 22 states bring the culture of arts and crafts to collectors, buyers and designers."  the restaurants, vendors and shops on main street host the event, offering delicious food and beverage options to add to the experience.

whatever you end up doing this weekend, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable time as always :)

lies i might have told you...my favorite store latico

last week i was hardcore swooning over these notebooks from linda and harriet and claiming that i was going to get the blue stripes and anchor notebook.  i am going to have to admit that i lied to you.  why would i do such a thing might you ask?  well it was extremely unintentional as i made a few purchases this weekend that will have to put those notebooks on the back burner.  (or potential birthday presents...hint hint mom!)

i was just so excited about one of my purchases that i just had to share.  i got it yesterday when i took a much needed vacation day down to baltimore to visit two of my besties (and probably our two most loyal sweet snippet readers).  we visited this store which was so wonderful it deserves it's own post which i will put up later this week, full of awesome pictures.

at this store i found the ultimate leather bag.  i have been looking for a nice brown leather bag for a while.  when i found this bag by latico, i got more excited than a 12 year old girl at a justin bieber concert (only hopefully with less squealing).   latico is a new jersey based company that makes all of their bags in the garden state.

i got this beauty - the sydney.  it is the perfect shape and makes me feel just a little hipster while still altogether very preppy (who would've thought that is even possible??) you can't see it in this picture but the top flops over to make it the perfect size cross-body bag as well.  pretty awesome!!

but here are a few of my other faves from their store.  the quality of the bag and the leather is phenomenal, i definitely recommend you check them out!

so you can add latico to one of jersey's great productions, right along side the boss, avalon, and definitely not the jersey shore.

adorable notepads

as you might be able to tell from this blog, i love all things nautical.  show me an anchor, some navy stripes, or a little sailboat and i will swoon over it for hours.  when one of my favorite stationary designer, linda and harriet, sent out an email this week announcing a new line of notepads are for sale on her site, i got a little excited. but then when i went to her website to check them out and they were all nautical themed, i got estatic.  they are so cute, i just had to share!

which is your favorite?  i think i am going to be picking up the anchor and blue striped ones myself.

mod cottage: a sweet find

last weekend, alanna and i were at the delaware beaches with a couple of our other girl friends.  on sunday we were walking around in downtown rehoboth and stumbled upon a sweet little shop: mod cottage.  we love supporting small businesses and can't resist cute home accessories so of course we went inside.  they have housewares, framed prints, bath & body care, candles, pet accessories, dining collections, and so much more!

browsing their website today i noticed that they have "fun mugs" that you can buy online.  i'm a huge coffee drinker, so i was intrigued.  here are just four of the 18 mug designs you can choose from - trophy wife, book worm, queen bee, and early bird.

some of their items are available for purchase from their website, but i highly recommend that you stop in the store to see all that they have to offer!

for the newest iphone

i woke up this morning to an email from apple announcing that the iphone 4 is now available in white.  thank you apple for providing one more reason as to why i should make every electronic i own an apple product.

a white iphone would be so pretty, especially if you have one of these cases from society 6 to help keep it white.  a brand new iphone + getting to carry a work of art around with you? that would be a serious upgrade from both my broken blackberry and it's blue case from five below.
